Irish Policy on Vehicle crime
All members of An Garda Síochána (Police officers) promote crime prevention and reduction. However, there are also dedicated Crime Prevention Officers within each Garda Division. These Crime Prevention Officers are trained to encourage, promote and advise on crime prevention to both the private and business community.
The National Crime Prevention Unit
There is a National Crime Prevention Unit located in Garda Headquarters and its responsibilities include:
- the promotion of crime prevention and reduction,
- research into best practice,
- the development of policies and strategies, and
- training for Crime Prevention Officers.
