Swedish Policy on Robbery

Certain forms of what is known in Sweden as ‘robbery offences can be regarded as volume crime, which is a priority issue for the Swedish Government (read more under ‘vehicle crime). Other types of robbery offence (robbery of security vans, certain types of bank robbery) can, however, be classified as organised crime. The Government has invested large amounts of money in recent years in preventing and combating organised crime, which constitutes a serious threat to society. This type of crime must be combated with great energy and determination on the part of the judicial system. This requires well-developed cooperation between the authorities concerned, but also with other actors in society. This is why a coordination council has been established comprising representatives of all the authorities concerned. Each year the council will present a national strategic focus for the fight against various forms of organised crime.
