In short, the project was coordinated by the Latvian Ministry of Interior and conducted under the European Union programme “Prevention of and Fight against Crime”. The project team developed the concept “exploitative sham marriage” in order to describe the phenomenon studied. Each partner conducted a national research which was coordinated and led by HEUNI. Primarily qualitative data was collected, such as expert and victim interviews in combination with case descriptions from NGOS and embassies. Also statistical information and pre-trial investigation and court material were utilised. The report is written for a large variety of experts and professionals working in the field of anti-trafficking.

The first campaign called superzárobok.sk offers protection against THB through a website http://www.superzarobok.sk/ (website in Slovakian) On this web page you can see fake employment agency offering well paid jobs abroad and does not demand good knowledge of foreign language. If a person is interested, he should registrate on the website to receive more information about the jobs and provide another e-mail address of his family member or a friend.

In the past years, the Slovak Police has repeatedly recorded frauds and other types of criminality committed upon elderly persons via legends. Fraudsters abuse credulity, vulnerability and often the high age or bad health conditions of seniors with the intention to gain cash from them.
