This report aims to clarify the economic benefits and costs of crime prevention. It was compiled for the Danish Crime Prevention Council and TrygFonden by senior adviser Rasmus Højbjerg, Copenhagen Business School. As well as offering benefits on the basic human level, a successful crime prevention initiative can also benefit society. This report seeks to highlight these benefits on the basis of three crime prevention initiatives.

In this research the attitude towards domestic violence of two different groups was evaluated. The participants were divided into 2 groups (60 participants, who have experience in police work or have studied police work, and 60 participants, who have neither experience nor education in police field).

The aim of the project is to exchange, summarize and analyse legislation, knowledge, experience and the best practice on simplification of less serious crime investigation in 7 EU Member States and to deliver recommendations for implementation of the best models and practice, thereby providing opportunities to increase effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in the EU Member States.

In short, the project was coordinated by the Latvian Ministry of Interior and conducted under the European Union programme “Prevention of and Fight against Crime”. The project team developed the concept “exploitative sham marriage” in order to describe the phenomenon studied. Each partner conducted a national research which was coordinated and led by HEUNI. Primarily qualitative data was collected, such as expert and victim interviews in combination with case descriptions from NGOS and embassies. Also statistical information and pre-trial investigation and court material were utilised. The report is written for a large variety of experts and professionals working in the field of anti-trafficking.
