Social Service of D.L.E.U.

Drug Law Enforcement Unit (Cyprus police) aims to prevent and combat the illicit drug trafficking and consuming in national and international level and this is managed through reducing supplies, reducing demands and through International Cooperation. In the field of reducing demand, D.L.E.U. having European practices in mind, decided to establish a special Social Service within the Unit, staffed by highly trained and educated personnel, the “Police–Social Intervention Officers”. The social service of D.L.E.U. provides to “clients”, with individual counseling support and motivational enhancement. The aim, is to mobilize and refer them to the appropriate centers for drug addiction therapy. The target group of the social service is arrested young offenders and their parents and people who face drug use or misuse problems and their families.
